Initially, the clients wanted a house that would take full advantage of their site, particularly the view of the St. Lawrence River. Thus, La Vigie stands on a rocky promontory in Lévis, overseeing maritime traffic.

A young couple expecting a baby acquires a new plot of land in Lévis with a stunning view overlooking the St. Lawrence River and the north shore of Quebec. Among their interests, the client is a wine enthusiast, and the client is passionate about pastry. They desire a contemporary residence that maximizes the view.

This residence is one of those projects where the name comes naturally once it is completed and inhabited. Somewhat unconsciously, the volume of the house resembles certain cargo ships with its stacked prisms. ↓

La Vigie offers a more discreet facade from the approach, while the two side facades close off to almost completely isolate the house from its neighbors. ↓

Once inside, the wine cellar, located on the garden level, is one of the highlights of the residence. It is positioned along the staircase and concealed behind a large sliding wooden door. When closed, it reveals a wooden prism along which the staircase winds. ↓

When open, a large glass panel reveals the bottles. An adjacent room provides the opportunity to taste wine while enjoying a view of the river. ↓

The staircase is also a striking feature, treated as a piece of art within the home. Its raw steel railing and circular landing set it apart. ↓

On the ground floor, the living areas are arranged along the generously glazed facade. A storage module separates the kitchen from the playroom. This module is a "pastry station," extending from the kitchen, reflecting a special request from the client. ↓

The ceiling is covered in white cedar, extending outward and blurring the boundary between indoors and outdoors. The clients use these spaces to follow the path of ships, much like lookouts, from the large bridge. ↓

Upstairs, the master bedroom is housed in a volume that slightly cantilevers. The corner window provides an unobstructed view of the landscape. ↓

La Vigie, perched on a plateau, offers a simple yet effective way to appreciate the landscape with its parallel orientation to the river. A mix of brick, wood paneling, and metal cladding enlivens the façades. The linear form of the house and the organization of the interior and exterior spaces allow for the enjoyment of the passing ships and the movement of ice on the river, throughout the seasons and times of the day. ↓
