La Rassembleuse was born from the clients’ intention to create a place that was both comfortable, on a daily scale, while creating an anchor point that could accommodate family and friends.

At the end of a long path crossing a wooded area, the residence is nestled in the hollow of a clearing. It is located along magnificent cliffs bordering the St. Lawrence River, near Bellechasse.

In order to take advantage of the height difference of the site and to meet the program, the residence is spread over two levels. Bringing together the living spaces and the master bedroom, the volume of wood is deposited on a rock mass well anchored to the site. The latter notably accommodates the guest bedrooms as well as a family room.

The residence is made up of two volumes; either the one which brings together garages and service areas and the one which accommodates the living spaces. Upon arrival, we enter the hollow formed by the overlap of these two volumes. ↓

Projecting the volume of services to the heart of the project allows the expense to be accommodated there and the kitchen to be attached to it. The extension of the lines of the volume, as well as the application of black wood cladding on the exterior as well as the interior, materialize the gesture of nesting and allows the spaces to be organized around this core. ↓

The living rooms are arranged in a row parallel to the river, allowing the view to be opened from each room. ↓

At the heart of the residence, the kitchen area becomes the gathering place for the family; from which we access the other spaces of the house. ↓

The natural stone basilar which extends inside allows for a fireplace and forms the rampart of the mezzanine. This massif also distinguishes the master bedroom from the rest of the residence, thus giving it the desired privacy. The office, for its part, occupies the space created by the inclination of the roof, thus providing a peaceful place at the heart of the project. ↓

The use of natural stone as cladding, both inside and out, gives the residence the impression that it emerges from the site. It evokes an old fortification from another era, giving the impression that the residence has always been part of the landscape. The contrast achieved by the wood cladding and the abundance of windows creates a feeling of lightness. This arrangement of materials brings a touch of timelessness to the La Rassembleuse residence. ↓
