Expansion + interior remodel Commercial2014 / 2018 / 2021

Our collaboration with the Tilton Group dates back to 2013. The expansion projects for the headquarters located in the industrial park of St-Augustin-de-Desmaures are divided into four phases: a renovation of the dining and break areas for company employees, a 31,000 sq. ft. expansion of the factory for a storage area to set up a completely autonomous/robotized sector and to double the existing office area on Level 2, a complete renovation of the existing office area on Level 2, and a recently completed additional 42,000 sq. ft. expansion for a 50 ft. high fully robotized factory storage area.

Groupe Tilton is a family-owned company founded in 1985 that specializes in the design and manufacture of eco-friendly plastic packaging made from 100% recycled, recyclable, or certified compostable materials.

The environment was outdated but featured spaces filled with natural light. The large windows open onto a wooded area at the back of the building. The project takes advantage of these existing qualities and proposes an open-plan cafeteria with light and simple furniture. ↓

A wooden drop ceiling is outlined between the entrance, the lobby area, and the coffee zone. The canopy helps define the different areas while adding a touch of warmth and a more human scale to the space, which still retains its industrial character. ↓

The expansion of the factory area was carried out with respect for the original concept and the surrounding natural context. In the end, the expansion, which represents almost half of the building's total area, seems like it has always been there. ↓

The main challenge was to plan and execute the project without interrupting production and without relocating employees during the work. To achieve this, the project was carried out in three phases. The first phase involved a complete renovation of the employee dining and break areas and the updating of the restaurant facilities. The meal service continued for all employees during the work with the help of temporary trailers. The first expansion was the second phase of the project. This way, it was possible to move employees from the existing office area into the newly completed section before starting the third phase, which was the renovation of the existing office area. The fourth and final phase, recently completed, had little to no impact on production as this expansion was intended for completely autonomous storage. ↓
