Lac Clair, located in Sainte-Christine d’Auvergne in the Portneuf RCM, sits near the Parc Régional de Portneuf, a region renowned for its striking geomorphological features.

The owners of this family retreat had owned a lakeside property for several years before bringing their vision to life. A winding footpath navigates the 30-meter elevation change, connecting the upper plateau to the lakefront dock. Nestled into the steep terrain, the Le Corbeau cabin seamlessly integrates with the natural topography. From a distance, a familiar silhouette emerges through the trees—its simple gabled roof recalling the iconic shape of a Canadian tent. Arriving from the upper plateau, the building evokes an A-frame cabin, whereas on the lake-facing side, it cascades over three levels, following the landscape down to the natural plateau.

Designed as a warm gathering space that embraces its surroundings, the cabin fulfills the owners’ desire to host family and friends in an environment that feels deeply connected to nature.

Avec sa silhouette inusitée et ses revêtements extérieurs foncés, le chalet Le Corbeau s’intègre à son environnement tout en affirmant un caractère distinctif. Son asymétrie du côté lac accentue l’élan vertical de la structure, rappelant l’élégance et le mystère du corbeau. ↓

L’entrée du chalet se fait de plain-pied à l’étage supérieur, via une passerelle qui relie l’espace extérieur couvert au chemin d’accès. ↓

The entrance is on the upper level, accessed via a walkway that bridges the covered outdoor space with the main path. This mezzanine level serves as a welcoming transition space, featuring a reading nook and an open workspace with panoramic views. ↓

The main living areas, oriented toward the lake, occupy the middle level alongside the primary suite, which is tucked against the rock face for added privacy. The lower garden level is dedicated to children and visiting family members. ↓

Les aires de vie, orientées vers le lac, ainsi que la suite des maîtres, nichée en retrait contre la falaise, occupent l’étage intermédiaire. L’étage inférieur, en rez-de-jardin, est quant à lui dédié aux enfants et à la famille en visite. ↓

At the heart of the project, a large dormer houses the vertical circulation, naturally guiding movement toward the communal spaces below. Beneath the mezzanine, the kitchen establishes itself as the central gathering point, where the island becomes a hub for shared moments. Outside, a sheltered area beneath the cantilevered volume extends the living space beyond the seasons, offering protection from the elements. From there, direct access leads to the mid-level plateau and the footpath. ↓

The exterior is clad in dark-toned cedar planks and metal siding, chosen for their natural integration into the landscape and long-lasting durability. The metal roof enhances longevity while preventing snow accumulation and reducing maintenance needs. Inside, a striking contrast emerges: white-painted wood slats line the cathedral ceilings, offering a luminous counterpoint to the darker exterior envelope.
