Cabine A is the first in a series of contemporary rental cabins, each uniquely connected to the St. Lawrence River. It is located in the Falaise domain in Petite-Rivière-St-François, near the Massif ski resort, in the stunning Charlevoix region.

The St. Lawrence River unfolds, and the landscape extends through the living spaces. It is a gathering place where families and friends can celebrate or contemplate in complete tranquility. The architectural and graphic signature of this project draws inspiration from maritime heritage and pays tribute to the pilots of the St. Lawrence.

At Quebec, the term "cabine" means "chalet," derived from the English "cabin," and it can also refer to a boat cabin. In this context, Cabine A evokes a place of accommodation associated with travel, escape, and water. As the first in a series of vacation homes that will gradually be established along the St. Lawrence River, Cabine A reinforces the symbiosis between the river and its shores. ↓

Nautical references are present but subtle. Formally, the gabled roof extends down to the ground on the street side. The cabin appears to be anchored to the ground to avoid drifting. The triangular shapes subtly recall the sails or rigging of ships. Access is provided by a walkway, and a large glass door invites entry into the wheelhouse. ↓

The letter "A" was chosen for its correlation between the angular shape of the building and the "A" in the maritime alphabet known to all pilots. In this unique project, architecture and graphic design mutually inspire each other, elevating the nature retreat experience to a higher level. ↓

The living area is entirely glazed to showcase the landscape. The kitchen and dining room open onto the large starboard deck. This expansive terrace provides stunning views of the the St. Lawrence and the surrounding scenery. ↓

The living area, with its double-height design, is clad in large panels of Russian plywood that extend under the roof's folds. The pale color of the cherry wood creates a striking contrast with the dark hues of the metal roofing and the weathered wood used for the exterior walls. ↓

The cathedral ceiling rises, echoing the exterior shape of the cabin. A boat ladder provides access to a secret nook in the attic, which will delight the little ones. ↓

"For centuries, the pilots of the St. Lawrence have ensured the safety of ships navigating this most varied transport route around which the history and identity of Quebec have been built." (Quote from Les pilotes du Saint-Laurent, 1762-1960, Jean Leclerc, Éditions GID, 2004) The brave pilots of the St. Lawrence used visual signals to guide themselves. The Cabine A and its future counterparts may, over time, become landmarks in the river's tourist landscape... ↓
