Cabane
217
Cabane 217 is a complete renovation project for a residence located in Ste-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier. The house is situated on a wooded lot overlooking the river. The owner wanted to give the house a new lease on life by opening it up more to the landscape.
The transformations involved a complete rethink of the living spaces to create a dialogue between the interior and the exterior. The basic premise was to preserve some of the rustic character while executing a contemporary project in harmony with its environment.
In terms of volume, the steep roof pitch is preserved, while the traditional dormers are transformed. On the river side, a section of the roof is lifted to house the master bedroom and the adjacent bathroom. This larger dormer creates an airy and bright space. The client thus experiences the idea of a “treehouse,” with privacy maintained by the surrounding vegetation.
